For the joy of living: Jean-Claude is over 50 and a bailiff. He seizes property and casts debtors onto the street. He isn't loved, that is accepted. Until he goes out and joins a tango dance course ... He meets Francoise, who enchants him. Suddenly he feels what it is like to be alone and dares to hope, shyly and quietly. But Francoise is due to marry a disabled artist. She dances and says nothing. Her feelings become so confused as she falls for Jean-Claude's silent approaches... The outstanding debut of a master in sensitive slapstick: strange, melancholy, heart rending.

A completely politically incorrect, but extremely enjoyable burlesque about a serious topic and at the same time a refreshing comedy about cultural differences and humanity and all things human in daily life. Crowd favourite in Locarno 2004.

4th May, 20:45

B.Aires (Sólo por hoy), Spanish subtitles;

An Argentinian film from Ariel Rotter with: Ailí Chen, Sergio Boris, Damián Dreizik, Federico Esquerro, Mariano Martínez

Kino am Raschplatz

Five young people between adolescence and adulthood, dreaming and reality, over five days in Buenos Aires: Toro cleans hotel rooms and claims to be a born actor. Finally he gets a shot at a casting. Equis slaves away as a cook, dreaming of the love of his life and Paris. Both are closer than they think. Morón has recently graduated from film school and is asking people on the street from behind his camera about their ideas regarding happiness, which he is looking for himself. To make matters worse he is also in love with Ailí. Fer is Moróns brother, the oldest of them all - and too melancholy to paint an apartment. The Chinese migrant Ailí is attractive, sort of artistically talented and works as a motorbike courier. They all live together, and the film delicately captures moments of their life like a Polaroid camera - no more, and most importantly no less. "We are what we do every day, and not what we dream of," decides Morón. The conditions are however set in the modern Buenos Aires of today. "a lovely and surprising film of new Argentinian cinema"
